Two Marie Curie Fellowships at Prof. Scherf labs (Wuppertal University)

Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher in polymer chemistry

We invite candidates to apply for a PhD position on the synthesis of NIR dyes and their incorporation into polymers, duration: 36 months

Description

OSNIRO is a new Marie-Curie ITN project of 8 well-respected partners in the field of organic electronics. Start date of the project is October 1st, 2013.

Scientific targets of the project are synthesis, characterisation and application of NIR absorbing and emitting organic materials for organic electronics.

This includes:

Synthesis of a series of NIR dyes and incorporation into oligomers and polymers; Synthesis of suitable host materials for blending with NIR dyes; Scale-up of the most promising molecules together with our industrial partner.

Requirements:
- Master of Science (or diploma) degree in chemistry or material science
- Good knowledge in organic synthesis
- Deepened knowledge in polymer synthesis
- Excellent English language skills
- German language skills would be an advantage
- Highly motivated, team minded and able to work independently

We offer:

OSNIRO is a strongly interdisciplinary project that brings together partners from different scientific fields, including chemistry, physics, and device engineering. This opens the possibility for the fellow to learn not only about polymer and organic synthesis but also about device fabrication, integration and device characterisation. During secondments in industry the fellow will have the opportunity to get insight into industrial work processes.

Candidates will be required to meet the Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher eligibility criteria (ftp://ftp.cordis.europa.eu/pub/fp7/docs/wp/people/m-wp-201201_en.pdf, page 8). In particular at the time of appointment candidates must not have obtained a PhD or equivalent and have less than four years full-time equivalent research experience. Additionally, they should not have resided in the Germany for more than 12 months in the last 3 years prior to appointment (not including short stays or holidays).

We strongly encourage the application of qualified female applicants.

Applications should be sent to Prof. Ullrich Scherf, e-mail: makro@uni-wuppertal.de
